Seeing Through the Fog
Week 2
In times of uncertainty it can be hard to figure what we are to do, where we are to go and how we are to get there. We have dreams and aspirations that are clear in our hearts and minds, but the decisions and actions in order for them to come to fruition may be unclear. The road is there for us but its hard to see it.
'Seeing through the Fog’ in life requires discernment. We can make decisions based on our emotions or feelings but discernment is the deeper ability to make correct judgements and decisions for our lives and future.
Here is the thing I am learning – Discernment is a muscle you exercise over a feeling you have.
Any muscle exercised correctly will grow. Discernment in small decisions will give you clarity in the bigger ones. So let's put your discernment through a workout. You can exercise your discernment muscle with:

1. Clarity
A common mistake we can make is seeking clarity on external factors and situations over seeking clarity on yourself... your internal disposition. Clarity on who you are, your dreams, desires and personal calling are the most important gift you can give to yourself in a season of uncertainty. There will be many opportunities that will come your way. The clearer you are on who you are you will know what fits and more importantly, what doesn’t.

2. Calm
What often pervades through seasons of uncertainty is the constant struggle to choose PEACE over PANIC. Panic decreases your ability to make clear decisions. True discernment is accompanied by Peace. Psalm 37 says ‘The LORD makes firm the steps of the one who delights in Him'. By remaining calm and shifting the focus off yourself, you afford yourself the greatest opportunity to advance on a firm foundation.
3. Council
The beginning of wisdom is this; Get wisdom (Proverbs 4:7). The beginning of discernment is this- seek council from those who have gone before you, have taken the road less traveled, have been through the fog and have come out the other side and who can share their wins and losses with you. There may not be a roadmap for where you are going but there is always a guide.
4. Courage
You’ve got clarity, you’ve stayed calm and you sought council. Now all you need is the courage to act. Without this final piece of the puzzle we risk becoming complacent or stuck in our lives. Courage means stepping out and moving forward even when there is fog, because with discernment it is always a little clearer.
